1968 FOOTBALL TEAM REUNION AND LUNCHEON
The James Wood athletic department is planning to recognize members of the undefeated 1968 JWHS football team on
Friday, October 26 in a pregame ceremony prior to the home game against the Handley Judges. That contest will mark the 50th anniversary of the legendary 9-7 James Wood victory against Handley that clinched the 10-0 unbeaten season and the Northwestern District championship.
Tentative plans call for the '68 team to be recognized on the field before the game and for the '68 team captains to be part of the pregame coin toss. All James Wood football fans are encouraged to spread the word to former players, coaches, and cheerleaders from the 1968 season to circle the Oct. 26 date on their calendars and plan to attend. All persons who can attend the game are asked to contact Debbie Phelps at
dhphelpsnana@gmail.com or call 540-539-0767. The list of names will be provided the PA announcer to be announced in the pregame ceremony.
In addition, there will be a luncheon at Perkins Restaurant & Bakery on Millwood Avenue (at the Lee-Jackson Clarion Inn) on Friday, Oct. 26, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM for all players, coaches, cheerleaders, and their guests. There is no need to register for the luncheon and all football memorabilia is welcome. After lunch, tentative plans call for a car caravan to James Wood Middle School for a walk-around and picture-taking session on the old JWHS football field.
