James Wood HS had 6 athletes compete this past weekend at the Class 4A State Indoor Track & Field Championships. They performed as follows:
Brooke Sandy earned all-state honors with a 3rd place finish in the Girls' High Jump
Drake Tews earned all-state honors with a 4th place finish in the Boys' High Jump
Logan Owens finished 9th in the Boys' Triple Jump
Kenzie Konyar finished 12th in the Girls' 3200m Run
Audrey Sandy finished 14th in the Girls' High Jump
Chance Grove finished 15th in the Boys' Shot Put

Members of the Indoor Track & Field Team competed on Friday, February 8, in the Region 4C Championship at Hagerstown Community College.
The girls had several all-region performances. Brooke Sandy earned regional champion honors, finishing 1st in High Jump. She was also 5th in 55m Hurdles. Audrey Sandy was 3rd in High Jump. Kenzie Konyar was 3rd in 3200m Run. Olivia Walker was 4th in 1000m Run. Her time of 3:19.27 moves her into the #2 position on James Wood’s all-time list for Indoor Track & Field.
The boys also had several all-region performances. Logan Owens earned regional championship honors, finishing 1st in Triple Jump. He was also 4th in Long Jump. Both of these events were actually contested this past Wednesday due to the lack of jump pits at the Hagerstown facility. Chance Grove was 5th in Shot Put.
James Wood will be represented at the Class 4A State Championship on February 22 - 23 at Roanoke College by the following athletes:

The boys’ and girls’ Indoor Track & Field Teams competed on Friday, January 4, in the Western Maryland Winter Indoor Track Classic at Hagerstown Community College.
The girls finished 8th of 16 teams. Several athletes had notable performances. Olivia Walker finished 2nd in the 1600m run, and her time of 5:39.83 puts her #4 on the all-time list for Indoor. Brooke Sandy tied for 3rd in the high jump with a state-qualifying mark of 5’ 0” (her 2nd time jumping that high this season). The girls’ 4x800m relay team of Audrey Sandy, Olivia Walker, Elena Farinholt, and Kenzie Konyar finished 2nd; their time of 10:37.00 is now #1 on the all-time list for Indoor, breaking a record that had stood since 1992 (when our jumps coach Caroline Sandy was on that record-holding team). The girls’ 4x400m Relay team of Audrey Sandy, Elena Farinholt, Mia Johnson, and Riley Rose finished 6th.
The boys were 11th of 16 teams. There were several notable performance by the boys. Drake Tews finished 2nd in the high jump with a state-qualifying mark (and personal record) of 6’ 2”; this jump tied him for #1 all-time with a record that has stood since 1990. Logan Owens finished 5th in the 55m hurdles. Lastly, the boys’ 4x800m relay team of Caleb Kemer, Chris White, Nathaniel Woshner, and Liam McDonald finished 6th.

The Boys’ and Girls’ Indoor Track & Field Teams competed Wednesday evening at the Millbrook Polar Bear Meet. The boys were 4th of 9 teams, and the girls were 6th.
Notable girls’ performances:
Brooke Sandy was 2nd in the High Jump with a State-Qualifying mark of 5’ 0”, and was 3rd in the 55 meter Hurdles with a District-Qualifying time of 10.37 seconds
The 4x800 meter relay team of Kenzie Konyar, Haley Witt, Elena Farinholt, and Olivia Walker placed 3rd
Audrey Sandy ran a District-Qualifying time of 1:31.25 in the 500 meter dash
Notable boys’ performances:
Chance Grove was 1st in the Shot Put with a District-Qualifying mark of 40’ 9”
Logan Owens was 1st in the 55 meter Hurdles with a District-Qualifying time of 8.78 seconds
The 4x400 meter relay team of Jackson Clyburn, Owen Emerson, Trenton Jordan, Logan Owens placed 2nd
The teams will compete in the Dickinson College (PA) Invitational on December 22.
